"The 'end of art' idea came to me around 1984 when I published the first paper. I thought that when it was no longer possible to tell which is a work of art and which isn’t, that there are no formal differences, so to speak, then there is no longer the possibility of a direction. That means the end of “history” for Art. There’s no longer any possibility of a master narrative, and I think we are really living in that kind of a world at this point"
